Sensible Snack: How to Easily Donate to a Charity of Your Choice for Free (Using AmazonSmile)

Sensible Snacks are bite sized nuggets of information to help feed your wallet and nourish your mind.

This week’s Sensible Snack is a hidden gem offered by one of the biggest retailers in the world. Did you know that you can shop on Amazon.com while supporting a charity of your choice with every purchase at no cost to you? I didn’t until I stumbled across it a few years ago…

It’s called AmazonSmile.

Now when you are buying that new desk chair, a new pop socket car mount for your phone, or a vinyl wall decal of half an Asian businessperson for your significant other, you can rest easy knowing you did it for a good cause.

AmazonSmile is available at smile.amazon.com and is the exact same website and products as you’re familiar with, with the added benefit that Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchases to the charity of your choice. They have over one million organizations to choose from.

I am not associated with Amazon and receive no personal or monetary benefit from sharing this. I simply support this initiative.

Choosing your charity is quick and easy. I chose Special Olympics Michigan Inc. because my older sister competes in various track and field events with the organization. She’s met a lot of her friends and won a bunch of medals through the competitions, but they are always in need of financial support to keep the facilities in good shape and the athletes coming back.

My sister Heather has won over 10 medals competing in the Special Olympics. I couldn’t be more proud of her.

In a few months it will be the holidays and due to COVID-19, many people will be shopping online at Amazon. Set your Amazon homepage to this URL from now on. And if you use the Amazon app on your phone, just go into “Settings” to enable AmazonSmile donations (screenshots below; you have to do it manually even if you already set it up on your computer browser).

How to Turn On AmazonSmile On Mobile:

Tell as many people as you can before the start of holiday shopping!

Processing…
Success! You're on the list.

Are We in a Housing Bubble?

Although housing prices have risen quickly over the past couple years, and are now out of reach for many first-time home buyers, to call it a bubble would be to call it unsustainable, irrational, and driven by euphoria or greed.

No one asked, but that didn’t stop me from giving my housing market predictions. (6 min read)
